Conservation
SMWSA is committed to conserving, protecting and managing Colorado’s water resources. SMWSA works towards these goals by facilitating collaboration in conservation efforts and as an active partner of the Douglas County Water Resource Authority (DCWRA). Involvement in DCWRA allows SMWSA to expand its ability to influence water education and conservation efforts in Douglas County.
SMWSA continues to be an innovator in water-conservation planning. Four SMWSA members were among the first to have water conservation plans approved by the CWCB. These members include: Castle Pines North Metropolitan District, the Town of Castle Rock and the Arapahoe County Water & Wastewater Authority. The remaining SMWSA members are slated to have their conservation plans complete by 2008.
SMWSA Member Conservation Facts:
- Castle Pines North reduced its total water usage by more than 100 gallons per capita per day in 2007.
- Castle Rock’s conservation measures resulted in a savings of 55 gallons per capita per day.
- Centennial Water & Sanitation District celebrates 15 years of successfully injecting potable water into the Denver Basin aquifers, making it available for future production and helping to sustain aquifer water levels.
- Centennial Water and Sanitation district was the first water provider in Colorado to implement the water budget billing system.
